Bishop Charles Ellis III
Bishop Charles H. Ellis III is the Senior Pastor of Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, Michigan. He pastors nearly 4,000 and is known as a leader “with a heart for people.” The ministry’s 20-acre site known as the “City of David” houses its $36 million-dollar Worship Facility, seating 4,000; Banquet Hall seating 500; Conference Center; Travel Agency; Recording Studio; Head Start Educational program and Ellis Manor: Apartments for Seniors. Also situated near their campus are the church’s two Charter Schools (grades K-8th) and Funeral Home. Bishop Ellis has grown the church to over 75 ministries serving its members and surrounding communities.
Bishop Ellis is a respected clergyman and civic leader and serves on a myriad of local and national boards and committees. He served as the Presiding Bishop of the 1.3 million-member Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) from 2010 - 2018. Also, some of his active humanitarian efforts are acknowledged in President Barack Obama’s first book, “Audacity of Hope.” Bishop Ellis has also appeared on many nationally syndicated news shows and has been featured in three documentary films resulting from his 2008 sermon, “A Hybrid Hope,” which called for the US Congress to support the American Automotive Companies in their time of need. Greater Grace Temple has hosted many Presidents; Vice Presidents, high profile politicians and nationally acclaimed services and events including the funeral of civil rights icon, Rosa Parks.
Six evenings each week you can witness Bishop Ellis bringing the message of salvation and God’s love to a potential 80 million viewers in over 200 countries on “The Word Network” and other TV and radio stations. God has divinely called Bishop Ellis to minister in many creative ways dubbing him the “masterful illustrator” when preaching God’s word. Thousands flock to his illustrated sermons and programs where hundreds are saved and restored each year.
Bishop Ellis most recently unveiled his “NEXT” in ministry which is the construction of a new 62-unit apartment facility with unlimited wrap-around services catering to young men (18-24yrs old) aging out of the Foster Care system. This vision is projected to be completed in the coming years.
Bishop Ellis is a Business Administration graduate of Wayne State University with a major in Accounting and also holds an honorary doctorate from Aenon Bible College. He is married to Crisette Michelle, and is the proud father of three children: Kiera, Charles IV, and Kirsten (who made her transition in 1994).
